Wellington, FL (January 2, 2015) — Traditional stirrups are a thing of the past for riders like International Grand Prix dressage champion Devon Kane. Kane— who rides multiple horses a day at her successful training, boarding, and sales business Diamante Farms— needs stirrups that allow her to achieve high performance without the accompanying stress on the body. Under the sponsorship of MDC Intelligent Stirrups, pioneer of modern stirrup technology, Kane is amplifying her natural riding ability with the aid of customizable stirrups that keep her comfortable in the saddle.
Designed to decrease pressure on the hips, knees, and ankles, reduce leg burns, and improve leg, calf, and foot position, the MDC Stirrups are a welcome change from traditional models. Riders in MDC Stirrups can adjust the stirrups to 45 or 90 degrees, or to the traditional angle to easily run up the irons. For dressage riders like Kane, being able to set the stirrups at a 90-degree angle results in zero leather pressure on the shin and compete flexibility.
Kane discovered the new technology after seeing German dressage rider Kevin Kohmann, a fellow trainer of Kane’s at Diamante Farms, riding in them. She decided to give them a try — and now all of her horses are going in MDC Stirrups. “The leathers used to pinch under my knee and drive me crazy, but with the adjustable stirrups, I can adjust them so the stirrups lay flat and I never get pinched anymore,” says Kane.
With constant horses to work at Diamante Farms and a full show schedule around the corner with the start of The 2015 Adequan Global Dressage Festival, these new stirrups are quite the relief to Kane. “They are very comfortable, and I like the elasticity of the stirrups,” she explains. “It puts a lot less strain on my hips and knees, so after riding multiple horses I’m still feeling fine and I’m not sore at the end of the day.”
Kane wore her MDC Stirrups during the 2014 United States Dressage Finals in Kentucky, where she captured the national Open Grand Prix Championship title. Kane plans to continue to use the stirrups in her future show successes, as well. According to Kane, the MDC Stirrups have already become “part of the ritual.”
