OCALA, Florida, Oct. 23, 2021–Kevin Kohmann competed in an international event as an American for the first time this weekend when he rode Dinamico in the World Equestrian Center CDI3* Grand Prix and Special.
Kevin, 33 who lives in Wellington, Florida, scored 67.234% on his own 11-year-old Oldenburg gelding in the Special, only the second Big Tour competition for the pair.
Riding Five Star on the victorious German Nations Cup team at Wellington’s Global Dressage Festival in March was one of his last competitions for the land of his birth.
“It was such a great finish,” he said of the first win by Germany in the only Nations Cup in the western hemisphere. “It could not have been better.”
“Sad,” to no longer be riding for Germany, he said after the competition in these spectacular show grounds, “but this is home now.
“I’m very proud to be an American. I couldn’t wait for this.”
Kevin first came to the United States in 2007 and said he waited “too many years” to become an American, “but I did it as fast as I could.”
He has been a trainer since 2014 at Terri and Devon Kane’s Diamante Farms in Wellington.
Born in Hamburg but growing up in Pansdorf on the Baltic Sea, Kevin won the pony regional championship in 2002.
